Mat Pilates

This program combines the art of traditional Pilates techniques with contemporary elements to enhance your core workout. It is designed for beginning and intermediate students.

Students should bring a mat and a blanket to class.

Ukulele 1: Beginning

Dust off that ukulele and learn how to play it! In this class, you'll learn basic chords and strumming patterns, how to read ukulele tabs, and how to play in a group. All beginning ukulele players are welcome!

Bring your ukulele as well as a tuner and black stand, if you have them.

Instructor BioSheila Martin holds a degree in music and wrote her Ph.D. dissertation on music in the works of a Cuban novelist. She is classically trained and has teaching awards from the University of California at Davis and the University of Wyoming. After years of classroom and private instruction, she founded an ukulele orchestra in the Black Hills of South Dakota which she directed for four years before moving to Astoria. She has been teaching ukulele at the college since 2020. Her teaching philosophy includes helping students develop the skills of sight reading, technique, and ensemble playing. She encourages her students to seek different approaches and solutions to musical problems and is enthusiastic about communicating her love of all types of music!

WT Spanish in the Workplace via Zoom

Calendar Sep 23, 2025 at 5 pm, runs for 4 weeks

This course is an overview of basic Spanish phrases with an emphasis on developing a basic vocabulary for communicating in the workplace. An emphasis is placed on pronunciation, role playing, and commands. Students will learn to speak job-specific and conversational Spanish. There is no grammar, complex rules, or verb conjugations to learn. This class is designed for newcomers to Spanish. No prior experience is necessary. For those working in the community it is important today to be able to effectively communicate in Spanish. Organizations can improve teamwork and service with an improved ability to talk to Spanish-speaking associates and clients. This course is a non-traditional approach to language learning resulting in proficiency in a short time frame. 

4 total sessions - Class meets Tuesdays from 5:00 - 6:30pm on Zoom.

Meditation

This is an ongoing meditation class and silent sitting group offered year round. In this class, participants explore the present moment experience using the foundational practices of breath, body, heart, and mind. This is a non-religious class lead by a Zen priest. All are welcome!

Sewing for Beginners

Have you ever wanted to learn to sew? This class is an exciting opportunity to not only have fun, but to learn a skill that will benefit you for the rest of your life! Learn the basics of sewing including: how to use a sewing machine, reading pattern instructions and understanding how to follow them, picking fabrics, sewing simple garmets, ironing garments, and understanding finishing touches.

Upon the successful completion of this class, students will have the ability to sew a simple garment start to finish and will feel the pride that sewing brings!

Students will provide their own basic sewing supplies for this class.

Geology: An Introduction

Come learn more about the geology of our Oregon Coast. Topics to be covered include plate tectonics and earthquakes, rocks and minerals, coastal processes and the shoreline, streams, glaciers, deserts, and global climate. There will be time for discussion, too!

Herbs for Health & Pleasure

Calendar Sep 24, 2025 at 6 pm, runs for 5 weeks

This class offers a guide to common garden herbs. Come learn how to grow them, how to harvest them, and what they could be used for. Information to be shared includes identifying the useful parts of plants, common preparation methods, and an overview on common gras (generally recognized as safe) herbs.

An additional $25 fee for supplies should be paid to the Instructor on the first day of class in the form of cash or check unless you touch base with the Instructor the week before class about what herbs to bring.

All students should bring a tea strainer, cup, quart canning jar with lid, towel, pot holder, and sweetener, if desired.

Cautions:  Students will use boiling water to make tea in this class. Also, students should be aware of their allergies and should consult their physician before using any herb for its medicinal properties.
