Strength & Flexibility Training

This all-inclusive strength training program blends strength with flexibility, endurance, balance, coordination, and concentration. Its unique synergism yields strong, fluid movements that require a challenging yet invigorating focus of mind and body. Create a better functional body to meet life's demands with a lot of laughter but without injury or undue fatigue.

Students should bring a mat and a set of hand weights to class.

Ukulele 2: Continuing

Calendar Sep 21, 2026 at 4 pm, runs for 10 weeks

In this class, previous beginning ukulele students will continue to learn basic chords and strumming patterns, how to read ukulele tabs, and how to play in a group. All continuing ukulele players are welcome!

Bring your ukulele as well as a tuner and black stand, if you have them.

Instructor BioSheila Martin holds a degree in music and wrote her Ph.D. dissertation on music in the works of a Cuban novelist. She is classically trained and has teaching awards from the University of California at Davis and the University of Wyoming. After years of classroom and private instruction, she founded an ukulele orchestra in the Black Hills of South Dakota which she directed for four years before moving to Astoria. She has been teaching ukulele at the college since 2020. Her teaching philosophy includes helping students develop the skills of sight reading, technique, and ensemble playing. She encourages her students to seek different approaches and solutions to musical problems and is enthusiastic about communicating her love of all types of music!

Sewing for Beginners

Have you ever wanted to learn to sew? This class is an exciting opportunity to not only have fun, but to learn a skill that will benefit you for the rest of your life! Learn the basics of sewing including: how to use a sewing machine, reading pattern instructions and understanding how to follow them, picking fabrics, sewing simple garments, ironing garments, and understanding finishing touches.

Class participants will learn how to read and follow a pattern. This is not a class in customizing or altering garments or patterns. All students will be making the same thing, at the same time in order to learn the skills.

Upon the successful completion of this class, students will have the ability to sew a simple garment start to finish and will feel the pride that sewing brings!

Students will provide their own basic sewing supplies for this class, including a sewing machine.

Ukulele 3: Intermediate

Are you an experienced ukulele player? Come learn more difficult chords, strumming patterns, and riffs. Develop your skills to get ready to join the local ukulele orchestra! All experienced ukulele players are welcome!

Bring your ukulele, as well as a tuner and black stand, if you have them.

Prerequisite:  Permission of Instructor is required to move from the Beginning or Continuing Ukulele class to this Intermediate Ukulele class.

Japanese Language & Culture I

This course introduces students to the fundamentals of the Japanese language while exploring key aspects of Japanese culture. Designed for beginners, the class will cover practical conversational skills, basic reading and writing (hiragana, katakana, and introductory kanji), and cultural topics such as food, customs, traditions, and geography. Additionally, the course will help prepare students for the JLPT N5 or N4 proficiency exams. The class includes interactive activities, role-playing, and discussions to provide an immersive and engaging learning experience. Special emphasis will be placed on real-world applications, making learning both practical and enjoyable.

Sewing: Intermediate

Sewing: Scandinavian Costume

Take your sewing skills to the next level in this intermediate-level sewing class! This hands-on course is perfect for those with sewing experience who want to craft a unique creation. 

The Scandinavian festival is coming in June, and you want to be ready with your authentic costume! Come to class and start at the beginning and be ready to dazzle everyone at the festival!

Class participants will learn how to read and follow a pattern. This is not a class in customizing or altering garments or patterns. All students will be making the same item, at the same time in this class.

Mat Pilates 4:30

This program combines the art of traditional Pilates techniques with contemporary elements to enhance your core workout. It is designed for beginning and intermediate students.
