Tai Chi

This 8 form of Tai Chi improves balance, reduces stress & anxiety, lowers blood pressure, and enhances overall health and wellness. All are welcome!

Sailing: All About Sailboats

Keel, Hull, Jib, Boom, What? Sailboats have their own vocabulary and nomenclature that can mystify people new to sailing. In this interactive seminar, we pull back the curtain and learn the common names for the parts of a sailboat, rigging, as well as the common terms used to communicate aboard a sailing vessel. Upon completion of this course, students will be able to identify the parts of the boat and rigging as well as basic commands. Students will gain the general knowledge necessary to pass the standard NauticEd quiz.

This class is 2 - 2-hour sessions.

COASST Volunteer Training: Beached Bird

Join the Coastal Observation and Seabird Survey Team (COASST)! COASST participants collect data on beach-cast carcasses of marine birds and on washed up marine debris on a monthly basis. Data collected helps address important marine conservation issues and protect marine resources. Please feel free to attend either training or both! Beach surveys are best conducted in groups of 2 or more—please come with a survey partner in mind or plan to join a team during training. Trainings are free, but we do require a refundable deposit for survey materials.

Note:  Please bring a lunch for yourself!

Weaving Baskets: Out the Door Basket

Come make your very own basket! Learn how to weave a farm table basket. This type of basket can hang on a wall. It could also be used to hold parcels or even to simply decorate any space!

A $55 fee for your supply kit and handle (natural and colored reed/rattan) should be paid to the Instructor at the beginning of class in the form of cash or check.

Please bring a sack lunch and these additional supplies: spray bottle, small bucket, soft tape measure, scissors, towel, pencil, flat-head screwdriver, and 4” zip ties.

Sailing: Reading a Nautical Chart

Nautical charts are graphic depictions of the sea and the shoreline and provide essential information for marine navigation. In this interactive seminar, learn the elements of nautical charts and the elements that make them different from a map of the land and how to read and use nautical charts.

This is a one session class.

WT-First Aid, CPR and AED Certification

This one session course is designed to prepare participants to provide First Aid, CPR, and use an automated external defibrillator (AED) in a safe, timely, and effective manner. This course teaches the critical skills needed to respond to and manage an emergency until emergency medical services arrive. This course includes infant/child First Aid and CPR. Upon successful completion of the course, students will receive the American Heart Association First Aid/CPR/AED two-year certification. Cards are issued electronically through the American Heart Association and may take up to two weeks to arrive.

This class is 1 session and meets in Patriot Hall Room 206.
